Orvieto, a hill town that seems to rise dramatically from the volcanic rock on which it is perched and is known for its long history dating back to the Etruscans. Explore the city on foot, enjoying the Italian charm and passing through many churches, in particular the Cathedral of Orvieto, a Gothic structure that dates back to the end of the 1200s and is known for its stained glass windows, sculptures and mosaics. undulating landscapes towards Lake Trasimeno, where you will stop for lunch. Then head to Assisi, a city declared World Heritage Site famous for being the birthplace of St. Francis of Assisi, a patron saint of Italy and one of the most legendary figures in religious history. Walking in the city to see the sites related to life of Saint Francis, including the stall where he is thought to have been born, his former home and the place where he promised to dedicate his life to the church. You will also discover the other saint of Assisi, St. Clare, one of the followers of St. Francis. Visit both the Convent of Santa Chiara, named for her, and the Basilica of San Francesco, dedicated to St. Francis, as well as seeing other attractions of Assisi such as the Piazza del Comune, the Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo, the town hall and the Roman Temple of Minerva. Returning from Assisi to Rome, we will stop at Santa Maria degli Angeli to visit its 9th century basilica where it is said that St. Francis worshiped.
