Discover the splendid Villa Adriana and Villa d'Este in Tivoli. Villa Adriana is the largest and most luxurious residence ever built in the countryside, with its fabulous and impressive array of imperial palaces, thermal baths, temples, theaters and swimming pools. there is Villa D'Este, one of the most enchanting places of the late Renaissance. The villa was commissioned by Cardinal Ippolito II d'Este, son of Alfonso I d'Este and Lucrezia Borgia and nephew of Pope Alexander VI. It is famous for its incredibly beautiful gardens, wonderful fountains, breathtaking waterfalls and century-old trees. The first stop in Tivoli is a walking tour of Villa Adriana. Listen to the story of the villa of Emperor Hadrian, who wanted a modest vacation home as a tribute to his beloved. By modern standards, his "humble royal residence" could be considered a city of its own. The ruins of the impressive emperor's estate consist of more than 30 buildings; you can see the main attractions as you explore it. Discover the complex of ruins of the old imperial palace, as well as the spas, temples, libraries and underground passages, which are sufficiently large for vehicles. Enjoy a lunch at your expense and then continue to Villa d'Este: explore the former Benedictine convent and find out why many consider the villa to be one of the most beautiful of the Renaissance era. As you explore it, listen to the story of the construction of Villa d'Este as a sumptuous home for Lucrezia Borgia's son, a 15th-century duchess who drew scandals and gossip wherever she went. Pass by the Neptune fountain and walk through the gardens to see the waterfalls, fountains and centuries-old trees. Leave Villa d'Este after the tour and then relax on the return journey to Rome.
